The Real Lincoln, behind the myth
Great agenda and purpose; not a biographyHowever, this book is NOT a biography. It presents ONE side to a very complex man. I hate Lincoln, but I have no problem quoting him sometimes. He is very insightful as far as human nature is concerned and was personally a man of integrity. BUT THAT ISN'T MINOR'S POINT. He knows it isn't a biography. That isn't his agenda. His agenda is to expose all the lies we have always been told.
This book is undeniably true becuase he ONLY uses 1st hand sources ANT THEY ARE ALL YANKEE SOURCES. Because of this, we can rest assured that the information is not biased and it accurate.
If you buy this book to learn about Lincoln, buy another Lincoln book as well. this book only presents his bad side (and it is really bad), but doesn't present the whole man.
Highly recommended reading.

Excellent How-To Primer for RedHatIf you want to step up to a more powerful relational database on Linux, the Database Servers chapter is a must read. The book also provides an excellent head start on using PHP scripting on Apache to access Sybase or PostgreSQL.

On many levels a wonderful, great book of mystery discoveryMETAPHYSICAL REVIEWS
THE REVELATIONS OF HO - An Adventure in Self Realization by Dr. James Weldon
"The Revelations of HO" is a wonderful book of love and fulfillment, on many levels...thus making it a great book. Certainly it is the very interesting autobiography of the author. It is also the poignant story of Dr Weldon's search for the Love and Grace of God. It is the wonderful story of a westerner embracing the wisdom of the East. All three levels are interwoven into an art form steeped in mystery, mysticism, discovery and truth.
From the very beginning of Dr Weldon's rebirth, his journey led him to strange and unusual experiences...and "The Revelations of HO", is the outpouring of those experiences...and the discoveries of their meaning, that brought him unrestricted love and serenity.
From a childhood where he was always looking for something (and not knowing what)...to the premature death of his dad ... to his drunken stepfather...to his entrapment in the drug culture.. to the discovery of Transcendental Meditation...His life is both exciting and just a bit more involved than most. His transformation began in Switzerland during an advanced meditation course at the university where he was taking his Masters degree. Suddenly, enlightenment was within reach...and his life was forever changed. He would never be alone again!
"The Revelations of HO", is Dr. Weldon's visceral story of enlightenment and achievement. It shares with the reader not only a story that reads like a novel...but an understanding of the religions of India and Tibet that brought salvation to the author.

THE GREATEST HISTORY BOOK!

Human confrontation with the vastness of space
reminiscent ofhe young adult works of Andre NortonHe boards the Fourth Ray and begins a mission that is not yet revealed to him. While in transit, they are ordered to pickup the Hyggelig Ambassador who will complete the mission with them. Willie learns how man developed the hyperdrive and defeated the evil aliens who wanted to have the human race for lunch.
THE ROAD TO SHAMBALLAH is reminiscent of some of the young adult works of Andre Norton. Steven Graham Charles has written a charming coming of age tale that showcases a protagonist who learns wisdom on a journey that he never wanted to take. Although this is partially a character study, the plot line contains plenty of action, making for a complete package.

A Road I Want To TravelI was intrigued, first of all, by the journey that was involved
in writing this book. I admit, that once I began to read this book, it was not easy to put down. Any spare moment that I had, I picked the book up. I wanted to be whisked away to lands in the far reaches of the galaxy, full of amazing people and places that came to life through the vivid storytelling. It was easy for me to picture the wonderful lands and characters as if it were playing out for me on a large screen. I found it a timeless story. The book had a number of very compelling twists and turns. Not only did I not want the story to end, but I wanted to run out and see the movie too! Hopefully, that will someday become a reality (Hello, Mr. Spielberg, are you out there?). The Road to Shamballah left me wanting for more. I want to hear more stories about these interesting characters and the places they travel to. To simply characterize this as a science fiction-fantasy is somewhat limiting in its scope. I found the elements of hope, family, romance, humor, and adventure as ones that will truly appeal to readers of all ages.
I highly recommend reading The Road to Shamballah. It is a road I truly want to travel again...

More stuff to help you go fast.As an example, here are three things that I benefited from immediately. After you read the book, you'll have your own list.
1. The mental aspect of boat preparation. You have to do whatever it takes to KNOW that your boat is fast and ready to win. Otherwise, when you're going slow you'll be making excuses instead of finding what's wrong and fixing it.
2. A killer diagram showing spinnaker pole positioning for reaching. This diagram makes it completely obvious what to do, but it's TOTALLY contrary to the "prevailing wisdom" among most of the folks I sail with. But the first time I used Buddy's position, boy did we point with that chute!
3. A great description of "feathering" the boat upwind on the beat.
As always, the winning combination is read, then sail, read some more, sail some more, then repeat. If you don't go on the water to practice, no book can help you.
The downside is that the book was written before the new racing rules came into effect, so be sure you're fully familiar with the rules before taking Buddy's advice on tactics that rely specifically on rules for their validity. (For example, in one circumstance the advice to a leeward boat is to luff up quickly, and "tap" a windward boat, fouling them out of the race. You'll be on thin ice if you try this in the new rules, with their clear emphasis on the importance of avoiding collisions.)

One will find out more than he may or may not wish to know, concerning Lincoln.
Charles Minor removes the "myth of Lincoln" a layer at a time.
If you're a Southerner, Lincoln biographer, or the average American just wanting to see who the REAL LINCOLN really was, this is an excellent book. ( If you're a defender of Southern Heritage, you NEED this book)
There are several publishing dates on this book. ( 1904,1927,1928, and more current)
NOTE---PRIMARY SOURCES
This book was written over a century ago. If you check the quotation such as ones from Shermans Memoirs, they are accurate, but he uses the OLD TWO VOLUME set, so the page numbers will not be the same as the new single volume.
Quotes from the O.R. ( Official Records)
Again, this was written over a century ago.
The FIRST set of the O.R. that came out, is NOT the ones we have today. The FIRST set of the O.R. were so confusing, few people had the time to research them. They also were very unorganized.
Charles Minor quotes from the first set. ( as a matter of fact, Minor says, "the O.R. is now over 100 volumes") What he quotes IS in the O.R. you may have to cross-reference it with the current O.R. though.
When reading Civil War books, I always check the authors primary sources, if I am in doubt.
Charles Minor used solid references. This is a nice addition to our Lincoln/Civil War/Presidents/ or American History Library
